Discussion: "Does GOD Make a Difference? Taking religion seriously in schools and universities"
6:30 p.m. program, 8 p.m. reception, 8th floor, Knight Conference Center at the Newseum, 555 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C.

Does American education unfairly exclude religion? Does God Make a Difference?, Warren Nord’s posthumously published work, argues that “American education proceeds on the assumption that God is either dead or irrelevant.” Has that made our public schools and universities “superficial, illiberal, and unconstitutional,” as Nord charges? Join us for a lively dialogue about the implications of a system of education that largely ignores religion.

Michael Waggoner, professor of higher education at the University of Northern Iowa and editor of Religion & Education, will moderate the panel which includes Shaun Casey, professor of Christian ethics, Wesley Theological Seminary; Charles Haynes, director, Religious Freedom Education Project at the Newseum; Emile Lester, asst. professor of political science, Mary Washington University; Melissa Rogers, director, Center for Religion and Public Affairs at Wake Forest University.

The panel discussion is sponsored by The Religious Freedom Education Project at the Newseum and Wesley Theological Seminary.

To reserve a seat for this program, contact Ashlie Hampton at 202/292-6288 or ahampton@fac.org.
